Lina Singly is E’s abusive ex-girlfriend from high school, who is actively using drugs and lives on her own in a shabby white house in the suburbs of Sparta Georgia. She graduated high school at 21 years old, making her three years older than everyone in her graduating class, and four years older than E who she’d “taken under her vile wing” when E had transferred to the adult school she was attending.
Currently, Lina buries the feelings of her life of abuse and abandonment while feeling awful for how she had treated E in high school and gives E a deathbed speech that she’s got to get out of the pit she’s in and encourages E to leave. Setting her up on a dating site and seeing how excited she was for her date made Lina feel like maybe there was hope for her, yet, if she was able to fix things for this girl she’d broken long ago.
Lina’s lines only shoot in Georgia and then she reappears, sober and cleaned up, as a background character in Kentucky for the final scene.
